The Dream
The programmed mind, inherited identity, ego, memory, being right, winning, rebellion, and the seeker.
Most of what you were given was a description. Over time, the description became an identity. And the identity became me.
I AM begins with a deeper question: what if the deepest mistake was what you believed yourself to be?
It is an inquiry into the programmed mind, constructed identity, awareness, attention, trauma, fear, desire, suffering, the seeker, death, love, and what remains when the search for another self begins to fall away.

The programmed mind, inherited identity, ego, memory, being right, winning, rebellion, and the seeker.
Awareness, attention, content and context, the gap, stillness, returning, the end of the seeker, and I AM.
The hypnosis of content, the great mistake, interrupted completion, the body, suffering, phantasm, the demon, the doer, soul and spirit.
Living as awareness, death before death, no one left, love without a center, the end of seeking, and the recognition that nothing was ever missing.
No doctrine is required. You are asked to look directly at experience and test every proposition against what can actually be observed.
The book moves through lived experience, recognition, and explanation. It is not an argument to win. It is a question to inhabit.
You are not asked to adopt a religion, reject one, become “spiritual,” or accept MuRay’s conclusions. Borrowed answers are part of what is being examined.
The question remains yours: Who am I?

There is a question beneath almost every question we ask about our lives, although most of us rarely ask it directly: Who am I?
We answer quickly because we have been answering it all our lives. We give our name, age, nationality, profession, family history, religion, accomplishments, relationships, personality, beliefs, preferences, and the events that have shaped us.
These answers are useful. They allow us to function in the world and communicate something about the human life we are living. But they share a characteristic that I did not seriously examine for many years: every one of them is something I know about myself.
My name, history, profession, nationality, personality, beliefs, memories, desires, successes, failures, wounds, and aspirations are all known. Even the body I ordinarily call me is experienced. Thoughts are experienced. Emotions are experienced. Memories appear and disappear. Roles change. Beliefs change.
A thought appears, and you know that a thought has appeared. An emotion arises, and you know the emotion is present. A memory comes, and you know the memory. Fear can be noticed. Desire can be noticed. Even the thought “this is who I am” can appear and be known.
Be careful here, because the mind will want to answer. Before answering, can you notice the simple fact that experience is already being known?
The invitation of this book is to investigate that directly. Carry the question rather than the answer, and test what follows against your own experience.

MuRay is the author name of Courtney A. Kazembe, a lawyer, teacher, transformational guide, and founder of the Global Institute for Freedom, Transformation and Enlightenment (GIFTE).
For more than three decades, his inquiry has moved through law and intellectual exploration, Western and Eastern wisdom traditions, meditation and silence, teachers and retreats, achievement and failure, relationship and solitude.
Law trained the mind to examine assertions, evidence, language, and assumptions. Contemplative practice turned that scrutiny inward. Eventually the inquiry turned toward the one assumption that had remained largely unquestioned: the person doing all the searching.
I AM emerged from the meeting of lived experience and sustained inquiry—not as a doctrine to believe, but as an invitation to look directly.
MuRay’s work is not organized around becoming a follower. The invitation is simpler: look directly, question what has been inherited, and recognize what has never been absent.
The Global Institute for Freedom, Transformation and Enlightenment is the larger field in which the inquiry continues beyond the book.
The book opens the inquiry. GIFTE continues it through dialogue, contemplative practice, community, immersion, and lived transformation.
Test teachings against experience rather than authority.
See what conditioning, identification, and fear have made compulsory.
Allow recognition to enter relationships, work, and ordinary life.
Explore what remains when attention rests in awareness.
GIFTE is not offered as a new religion, belief system, or personality cult. Its purpose is not to create followers, but conditions for inquiry, recognition, and transformation.
I AM offers a distinctive conversation about identity, awareness, the programmed mind, attention, fear, desire, spiritual seeking, and what it means to live from awareness in ordinary human life.
